John Ludwick to give Heartland Film Festival lecture

John Ludwick, lecturer, IU School of Informatics, Media Arts & Science program, presents "Animated Filmmaking: Emotions in Motion". The free lecture is being offered during this year's Heartland Film Festival. Sponsored by the Heartland Film Institute, Ludwick's talk is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 10.
MAS professor kicks off IUPUI Cutting Edge Lecture Series

Richard Edwards, associate professor, IU School of Informatics, Media Arts & Science program, will join five fellow IUPUI faculty members for this semester's Cutting Edge Lecture Series. Leading IUPUI professors will engage the campus and community in discussions about rapidly changing fields of inquiry in this on-campus lecture series. The speakers will share their expertise and insights regarding the applications of their current research endeavors.
Informatics staffer selected as recipient of IUPUI civic engagement award

Gloria Quiroz, student services counselor, IU School of Informatics at IUPUI, has been named distinguished recipient of the 2009 Nan Bohan Community Engagement Award. The Bohan Award recognizes employees who through extraordinary service and special contributions enhance the culture of service and civic engagement on campus and in their communities.
MAS grad is keynote speaker for Black Entertainment Television (BET)

Virginia Richardson, a 2007 Media Arts & Science graduate, served as a keynote speaker recently for Black Entertainment Television (BET). Richardson addressed attendees at BET's internship orientation, sharing with students the importance of higher education, and the value of developing a "personal brand" in the workplace.

May 20, 2009 — Jake Chen, assistant professor, IU School of Informatics at IUPUI, was recently recognized by the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) as the recipient of the 2009 Senior Member. According to ACM, the senior member grade is an award that "recognizes those ACM members with at least 10 years of professional experience and 5 years of continuous Professional Membership who have demonstrated performance that sets them apart from their peers."

May 13, 2009 — A graduation recognition dinner and Mother's Day commencement ceremony brought to a close the academic journeys of graduate and undergrad students in the IU School of Informatics at IUPUI. 179 students received their diploma during the School's commencement exercise Sunday, May 10 at the Indiana Convention Center.

April 30, 2009 — Mother’s Day will once again carry special significance for IUPUI graduates and their families, including 179 newly minted grads of the IU School of Informatics. IUPUI commencement exercises will be held Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 10 at 10:00 A.M. and 3:00 P.M. in Halls A-B-C of the Indiana Convention Center downtown. The School of Informatics will participate in the 10:00 A.M. ceremony.

One of the great values of 3D animation, as taught in the Media Arts and Science program, IU School of Informatics, is the ability to make complex issues easier to understand. That’s been the longtime mantra of Albert William, an IUPUI research associate. To that end, a health-related animation project created by William is featured in an important series of broadcasts on public television stations across Indiana.
