Research Interests
Dr. Bolchini’s research interests are at the intersection between new media communication, human-computer interaction design, requirements engineering and usability, with a particular focus on modeling the user experience for hypermedia and web content-intensive applications. Specific topics of investigation include communication requirements modeling, conceptual design methodologies, information and navigation architecture methods, usability and accessibility evaluation, interaction between requirements and design.
Before joining Indiana University, Dr. Bolchini was Visiting Senior Research Fellow at the University College London (UK), after having held a Post-Doc research and teaching position at the University of Lugano (Switzerland), TEC-Lab (Faculty of Communication Sciences), lecturing appointments at the Politecnico di Milano (Italy) and visiting research positions at North Carolina State University and at the University of Toronto. During these experiences, he achieved important results in the area of requirements engineering methods for content-intensive interactive applications, design methodologies for web and hypermedia, usability and accessibility, with funding from the Swiss National Science Foundation, the European Union Programmes, as well as through professional consultancy and mandates. Dr. Bolchini’ research has found applicability in various domains, including Cultural Heritage, eLearning, eGovernment and, more recently, Bioinformatics. He is also Vice-President of the Swiss chapter of the Usability Professionals’ Association (UPA) and has taught various academic courses at the University of Lugano, University College London and at Politecnico di Milano, as well as training courses for usability and new media professionals.
