Katherine Schilling is an assistant professor at the Indiana University School of Library & Information Science at Indianapolis, with adjunct appointments to the Indiana University School of Nursing and the Indiana University School of Informatics at Indianapolis.

Her professional background includes 16 years of experience in academic health sciences librarianship. She specialized in the development of information literacy curricula for the University of Pittsburgh and Boston University Medical Center schools of Medicine, Dental Medicine, Public Health, Pharmacy, Nursing, and at several major teaching hospitals and community health centers. Dr. Schilling has extensive experience in library reference services, Web-based distance learning, web development, health literacy and health information literacy. Her research and activities have focused on end-user searching behavior, human-computer interaction, and clinical decision-making within the evidence-based practice environment. Dr. Schilling has participated in several National Library of Medicine (NLM) funded educational outreach grants for consumer health, and has published and presented nationally and internationally on her experiences developing Web-based information portals for healthcare professionals and health consumers, specifically in the areas of HIV/AIDS, mental health and behavioral oncology. Dr. Schilling is active in professional associations, and is a co-editor of the Journal of the Medical Library Association. She is also a senior member of the Academy of Health Information Professionals (AHIP).
