IU Informatics professor and alums featured speakers at leading pharma conference

September 30, 2009 — Two graduates of IU's Laboratory Informatics Program, and an IU Health Informatics professor will be featured speakers at LI '09: The 5th Forum on Lab Informatics.  This year's conference - "Advancing Laboratory Informatics to speed up the analytical process and Time to Market" - will be held Oct. 26-28 in San Francisco.

John Ludwick to give Heartland Film Festival lecture

The free lecture is being offered during this year's Heartland Film Festival. Sponsored by the Heartland Film Institute, Ludwick's talk is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 10.

Jake Chen receives top-level designation by ACM; featured in campus Faculty Spotlight

May 20, 2009 — Jake Chen, assistant professor, IU School of Informatics at IUPUI, was recently recognized by the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) as the recipient of the 2009 Senior Member. According to ACM, the senior member grade is an award that "recognizes those ACM members with at least 10 years of professional experience and 5 years of continuous Professional Membership who have demonstrated performance that sets them apart from their peers."

Informatics medical animation featured in public television series on health

That’s been the longtime mantra of Albert William, an IUPUI research associate. To that end, a health-related animation project created by William is featured in an important series of broadcasts on public television stations across Indiana.

Media Arts and Science professor publishes research on critical thinking vs. software education

April 27, 2009 — Edgar Huang, associate professor, IU School of Informatics at IUPUI, has published a paper examining the distinctions between teaching students how to think and how to use software. Teaching Button-Pushing versus Teaching Thinking: The State of New Media Education in US Universities was published in "Convergence, the International Journal of Research Into New Media Technologies".

Danita Forgey selected as School of Informatics philanthropy honoree

April 15, 2009 — Danita Forgey, lecturer, has been selected as the School of Informatics 2009 Spirit of Philanthropy honoree. She and other representatives will be recognized at the IUPUI Spirit of Philanthropy Luncheon and Awards Ceremony April 22, 11:30 A.M. at the Campus Center. The awards and luncheon are an annual celebration of the civic spirit for those who have helped IUPUI become a great urban campus, and honors the campus' most dedicated donors and volunteers.
